Two of Barcelona´s most popular running marathons

The IAAF has recognized the Barcelona Half Marathon, also known as the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona, as the best Half Marathon in Spain for 2020. This year 2023, it will be held on the 19th of February. People from all over the world come to Barcelona to take part in it. On the other hand, there is another and surely not less exciting marathon in March, which will be happening on the 19th in 2023 – Zurich Marató Barcelona. The Barcelona marathon is an annual event that takes place in Barcelona, Spain.

The first Barcelona running marathon took place in 1978, so this year´s marathon will be the 40th edition. Till 2005 it was known as “Catalan marathon”. The route passes across the central city streets. The start and the finish are on España Square (Plaza España). Every year the marathon gains more and more popularity. On the start of the first marathon in 1978 there were 185 people and in 2011 on start there were 15 134 persons, from which 12 531 could finish the distance.

Sónar is a three-day electronic and advanced music festival. It was founded in Barcelona in 1994 by journalist Ricard Robles and musicians Enric Palau, and Sergi Caballero. This first event was attended by nearly 6,000 people, but this numbered tripled in only two years, reaching 18.000 in 1996.
